GOAL: Schedule elections around Jewish Holidays and extend public input period
DEADLINE: TODAY Jan 2, 2018
The Sec. of the Commonwealth is taking public input about the dates of the fall elections. The League of Women Voters in MA [PDF] suggests we contact them with two asks:
1. Please don’t schedule the Sept primary on either Sept 11th or 18th because they fall on major Jewish holidays,
2. Please extend the period for public comment.
The deadline for public input is today Jan 2, 2018 so please call or email ASAP.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
I’m writing in support of the League of Women Voters of MA’s proposal that the date for the September primary be either Thursday, September 13 or Thursday, September 20th, but in no case on either Sept. 11th or 18th due to the conflict with Jewish holidays. I also request that the time for public input be lengthened since the announcement was made the final working day before winter holidays and ends today as people are returning to work, a period when few people were aware of. Lastly, please expand the early voting period for at least all statewide elections, including primaries, which would allow more voters the chance to exercise their constitutional right to vote if they cannot be there in person on election day.
