ACTION ITEM: Take Advantage of INDIVISIBLE’s Tools and Fight for the ACA

FOCUS: Healthcare (of course!)
GOAL: Help activate Blue folks in Red states and get them to call their legislators

We know this week has been one fire drill after another. It’s exhausting, but this is an all-hands-on-deck moment. McConnell and his vindictive GOP cronies succeeded in passing a motion to proceed regarding their efforts to repeal the ACA. This is just the first step, but this handy infographic from Vox shows just how they’re planning to push their (non)healthcare bill through the Senate and all the way to 45’s desk.

INDIVISIBLE has also published their own informational page: What Happens Now on TrumpCare: We Can Still Win This

Being from a Blue state and having Warren and Markey fighting for us, we often feel like there’s not much we can do; but INDIVISIBLE has a new tool that gives us an easy way to support our fellow Resistance members in Red states. Yesterday, INDIVISIBLE sent the following email:

Say it with us: this is not over.

We lost a procedural vote today that puts Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that much closer to the finish line. But he still has a huge lift on his hands: convince 50 Senators to vote for a complete dumpster fire of a bill—a bill that will cause 15 to 32 million people to lose their insurance, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, and a bill that at least 58 Senators are on record as opposing in some previous iteration.

Usually a vote for the Motion to Proceed (MTP) signals support for the underlying bill. But senators literally do not know which bill they’re taking a final vote on—which means the outcome is anyone’s guess. The vote on final passage will be Thursday or Friday, so we need you RIGHT NOW.

What blue state residents can do.

We get it. You live in a blue state, your own senators oppose TrumpCare, so what can you do? You’ve thanked your Democratic senators for withholding consent and holding the line. That’s important. That’s not all though.

We’ve got a game changing new tool that lets you lend a hand to defeat TrumpCare, from the comfort of your blue state—sign up here. You can make calls starting this afternoon at 4:45 pm ET to help pressure key senators in Nevada and West Virginia. It’s a simple four-part process:

  1. You call a voter in a key state with a swing Republican. First, you’ll make calls to the folks in target states. These folks are your friends—they attended the Women’s March and/or fight for progressive causes.
  2. You explain how they have power now. You’ll remind them why the continued fight against TrumpCare is so important—and why they have particular power in this moment.
  3. You ask them to use their power. Then, you’ll ask them to call their senator in opposition to the bill, and to share their own reasons for opposing it.
  4. The tool connects them to their Senator’s office. The call tool will allow you to automatically patch them through to the Senators’ district offices.

It’s that easy.

Paying for these calls

We’re covering the costs of these calls—we got a bargain price for them at 13 cents per minute. To build the wave of constituent power we need, we are trying to raise $20,000 to fund thousands of calls targeted in two key states: Nevada and West Virginia, where the most persuadable Senate Republicans are.

If you can chip in just $26, that will fund 40 five-minute conversations between blue states to constituents in Nevada and West Virginia to emphasize the devastating impact TrumpCare would have and ask them to call their Senator on the spot. We just decided yesterday to pull out all the stops and purchase this tool, and your support today will allow us to fund thousands more constituents to pressure their Senators. Join us.

Per INDIVISIBLE’s email, you can:

  1. Join their calling campaign
  2. Donate to support the calling campaign

And, of course, you can keep calling our Senators to thank them and encourage them to pull out all the stops:
