Action: Public Comments Needed to Oppose Spectra’s Air Quality Permit Application for Weymouth

Action: Help protect South Shore communities from the proposed Weymouth (fracked) gas compressor station by submitting your comments regarding the Air Quality Permit to the MassDEP.

Deadline: ASAP. Deadline for comments is May 1.

Background: “Spectra Energy plans to build an 18,600-horsepower Natural Gas Compressor Station adjacent to the new Fore River Bridge in North Weymouth, which will adversely affect South Shore residents. This Compressor Station is a serious threat to the health, safetyenvironment, and economy of the South Shore.” For more information visit

Why should you care? The Weymouth site is the smallest, most densely populated area ever proposed for such a facility. Two neighborhoods adjacent to the site are designated Environmental Justice communities: home to a large number of low income and minority residents and already burdened by multiple sources of industrial and vehicular pollution. The company proposing this project has a bad track record on safety, and there’s evidence that the air quality data this company submitted to MassDEP does not accurately reflect the real burden and risks the facility will impose on nearby residents.

You can help protect these communities by submitting your comment to the MassDEP this week.
