Good News Edition – October 14, 2017

Time to seek out the happy headlines and take a moment to remind ourselves that the world isn’t all doom and gloom. There are good people out there putting up a good fight. There are small and large wins happening locally and at the federal level, even if some days it feels like everything is going the wrong way.

Personally, I’m exhausted by all the awful stuff happening; but I’m trying to keep my perspective (and my sense of humor) by talking to other people who are as horrified as I am (and by indulging in some late night TV shows … thank goodness for Colbert, Myers, and the whip-smart and sharp-tongued Samantha Bee!). I’m also very much looking forward to getting together with some fellow Action Together folks at the Beverly Public Library this coming Tuesday (the 17th) at 7PM. If you’re in the north shore area, love to have you join us for a freeform meeting to reconnect and recharge. Super casual. Maybe we can create some Good News of our own!

  • What Makes Eminem’s Anti-Trump Rap Different – “Eminem knows that Republicans buy songs — his songs — too. His message to them is to stop buying. After focusing on the evils of the “racist 94-year-old grandpa” in the White House, he gives his Trump-supporting fans an ultimatum. ‘I’m drawing in the sand a line: you’re either for or against,’ he says. ‘And if you can’t decide who you like more and you’re split/On who you should stand beside, I’ll do it for you with this,’ he adds, giving his middle finger to the camera.”

  •  Trump’s popularity is slipping in rural America: poll

  • A white Virginia resident received a permit to place a Black Lives Matter flag in her backyard after officials said they didn’t have the authority to remove a Confederate flag that’s visible over Interstate 95 that is on private property.*
