Good News Edition – September 30th

Before we get to today’s list of good news links, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the devastating situation in Puerto Rico. We shared some links earlier this week with ways to help, but given 45’s abhorrent Twitter rant on Puerto Rico this morning, it’s worth repeating the plea for as much assistance as each of us can give. Whether that’s by making monetary donations or collecting goods to send or whatever other Good Deed or Act of Kindness you can think of doesn’t matter. We just need to do something … anything. Liz Gumbiner posted a collection of great links over at Cool Mom Picks under the heading, Get outraged about the Puerto Rico response. Then read these ways to help. I’d amend that to say, “Get outraged and then take action.”

One of the options to help that Liz shared was donating to United for Puerto Rico, an organization which “was founded by the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló, to help the victims of Irma and now Maria. They’re doing good, important work with 100% of the proceeds directly supporting those affected.”

And, there are a few good new stories coming out of this ravaged island. Take, for instance, the celebrity chef who is cooking 10,000 meals a day in Puerto Rico. And 45 did (eventually) waive the Jones Act for Puerto Rico, easing hurricane aid shipments. (Not giving him points, just saying that it’s a good thing it happened.)

However you decide to help. Thank you. Things may be tough all around, but it’s always a good idea to—if you can—help others who are more in need than you. And, it’s for certain that the people of Puerto Rico are in dire need right now.

Thank you.
