FOCUS: The civil rights and independence of people with disabilities
GOAL: Protect the American Disabilities Act
On September 7, 2017, the US House Judiciary Committee voted to advance H.R. 620, The ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017, a bill which could seriously harm the civil rights and independence of people with disabilities. H.R. 620 hasn’t yet been scheduled for a full House vote, but we must help preserve the ADA and contact our Representatives to tell them to VOTE NO on this bill.
H.R. 620 was introduced by Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX). It would seriously weaken the Americans with Disabilities Act and make it easier for businesses to continue to ignore the ADA. It would create significant obstacles for people with disabilities to enforce their right to access public accommodations and impede their ability to participate fully in all areas of society.
